9 Night Cruise sailing from Barcelona roundtrip onboard Azamara Quest.
Where better to begin an intensive journey of the Mediterranean than beautiful, gothic Barcelona? Arrive a few days early to spend your days cafe hopping, shopping in the Gothic quarter, and exploring the city’s gorgeous architecture before setting sail for an immersive journey along the Cote d’Azur and the Mediterranean.
Then it’s off to Marseilles. We stay late here, so you’ll have time to visit Vieux Port, the lively fishing harbor; Le Panier, one of the oldest and most stroll-worthy neighborhoods; and the North African souks and shops in the Capucin district. Another late stay awaits in St. Tropez, where you can join other jet setters on one of the fabulous beaches.
With streets full of colorful buildings, palm-lined boulevards, and a harbor of turquoise blue, you may feel like you’ve somehow stepped into a living painting when you arrive in Nice for a late night. Stay around to explore, or hop over to Monte Carlo to be amazed by the opulence, the breathtaking surroundings, and enjoy some of the bucket-list-worthy Grand Prix races.
Next is an overnight stay in Florence—full of art, architecture, palaces, churches, and museums, you’ll need the extra time to discover it all.
After a whirlwind weekend, we arrive in the Spanish Isles. On a late stay in Mahon, a hike up Monte Toro offers the best views of this laidback Balearic hideaway. Explore the island’s prehistoric past, or simply take in the natural wonders of this UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. Your first view of Mallorca is breathtaking: Bellver Castle overlooking the bay and the famed Gothic cathedral standing out against the horizon with the ancient Almudaina Palace beneath.
We conclude our journey in brilliant Barcelona. Marvel at Ricardo Bofill's postmodernist National Theater of Catalonia, an imaginative combination of classical and modern design, with a greenhouse-like lobby.
Highlights of this cruise:
Barcelona
Barcelona is a cosmopolitan masterpiece. With a history rich in art and architecture, medieval, Gothic, and modern influences can be seen all over the city. Start at the waterfront and stroll up the shady, tree-lined Las Ramblas boulevard and discover some of the city's best shopping and bustling cafes.
Nice
Nice is more than just a “nice†place to visit! Bristling with colorful buildings, towering palm trees, and a stunning harbor, strolling through Nice is like visiting a painting come to life. On your walk, you’ll find Place Rossetti, home of the must-visit cathédrale Saine-Réparate. Also nearby is Fennochios, a world-famous ice cream and sorbet shop where you can enjoy a delicious sweet treat.
Mahon
From the moment Mahon comes into view from the ship, you know you’re in a special place. Perched high atop a cliff, shops, cafes, and restaurants line Mahon’s vibrant streets and are yours to discover. While visiting, be sure to explore the Church of Santa Maria. Here, you’ll find an unbelievable organ—complete with four keyboards and over 3,000 individual pipes—and a lovely municipal market.
