11 Night Cruise sailing from Amsterdam to Bordeaux aboard Azamara Pursuit.
Set out to sea from the Venice of the North—Amsterdam. Take in priceless works by Rembrandt and Van Gogh or cruise one of the city’s many canals before our evening departure. In Bruges, wander the maze of its medieval core, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Savor a dish of moules-frites (mussels in broth served with fries) Belgium’s unofficial national dish.
An overnight in Rouen puts Paris within easy reach and gives you ample time to savor delectable dining, view world-famous attractions or simply unwind at a chic outdoor café. Next in Honfleur, visit the D-Day Landing Beaches or stroll the cobbled laneways and admire the tall, narrow homes that line them. In Cherbourg, the D-Day Beaches of Normandy are steeped in military history, and in St. Malo, the iconic Mont Saint-Michel stands as a stalwart sentinel in the sand. With late stays in both captivating ports, you’ll have plenty of time to explore.
Next, spend a night at sea enjoying Azamara’s Broadway-caliber entertainment and a full suite of indulgent spa offerings before docking in the Loire Valley for an overnight stay. Explore Nantes’ picturesque gardens, galleries, and thriving art scene, then cruise to Bordeaux, where another overnight stay offers plenty of opportunity to sample the region’s excellent wines.
Highlights of this cruise:
Bordeaux
Bordeaux’s fortunes have long been tied to viticulture. As a result it is a handsome and cohesive city of incredible classical and neoclassical style, with monumental buildings and fine mansions financed by the almighty grape. Be sure to bring your tasting palate to sample some of the world’s best wines.
Nantes
Known as a city of reinvention, Nantes shines with Gothic architecture and quirky, cool art installations. It’s the ideal blend of modern and medieval, where castles and cathedrals meet magical mechanical animals and funky restaurants and galleries. Shop the elegant boutiques of Passage Pommeraye, and set out on a river cruise to discover the chateaus and vineyards of the breathtaking Loire Valley.
Honfleur
Honfleur is a lively port and the maritime influence is evident. Even Sainte Catherine church has a ceiling resembling an overturned ship hull. The square surrounding the church gives way to cobbled lanes of half-timbered houses and elegant manors. The quality of light has long attracted artists—including Monet, Turner, Seurat—all of whom stayed at Saint Siméon, now Honfleur's most luxurious hotel.
Amsterdam
With more canals than Venice, Amsterdam is a winding wonder of waterways just waiting to be explored. Whether by boat or by foot, learn about the city's past inhabitants such as Rembrandt, Van Gogh, and Anne Frank. You'll soon discover there's so much more to Amsterdam than windmills and wooden shoes. |
