Your first stop is a late stay in Valencia, home of impressive Gothic monuments and plazas, the Calatrava-designed City of Arts & Sciences, and perfect paella. Explore the fascinating history of Spain in Cartagena where the storied Roman Theatre and Conception Castle offer an unforgettable experience.
Your voyage then takes you to the soulful city of Málaga for another late night. Here, lay on the beautiful beaches of this sun-kissed paradise or explore the exceptional museum dedicated to Picasso, who was born here.
The Mediterranean gateway of Gibraltar welcomes you with the iconic limestone “Rock of Gibraltar†rising out of the sea. Next, get ready to treat yourself to some of the finest ports from the Douro Valley in Lisbon. Your first overnight stay invites you to wander the cobbled alleyways to discover some of the world’s smallest bookshops, and a buzzing nightlife.
Call on Vigo for complimentary tapas and another late stay before the coastal city of La Coruna welcomes you with specialty seafood and local boutiques worth discovering. The world-famous Guggenheim Museum and Europe’s largest indoor food market is sure to keep your wanderlust alive during your overnight stay in Bilbao all before your remarkable trip concludes in France’s wine capital – Bordeaux.
Highlights of this cruise:
Barcelona
Barcelona is a cosmopolitan masterpiece. With a history rich in art and architecture, medieval, Gothic, and modern influences can be seen all over the city. Start at the waterfront and stroll up the shady, tree-lined Las Ramblas boulevard and discover some of the city's best shopping and bustling cafes.
Valencia
Marvel at the stunning mix of innovative architecture and gothic beauty when you visit Valencia. This Spanish city is home to many avant-garde buildings, including the breathtaking City of Arts and Sciences cultural complex. Elsewhere, palaces and mansions constructed in the 15th century dot the cityscape, while The Silk Exchange resembles a medieval fortress housing many mysterious carvings.
Cartagena
The seat of ancient Carthage, this Spanish port city is steeped in over 2,000 years of history. Start at the Naval Museum to learn more about the "City of Cultures", then set out to explore everything from Roman ruins right up to modern creations inspired by Gaudi.
Gibraltar
The towering Rock of Gibraltar is a sight to behold. Overlooking the mouth of the Mediterranean from a height of 1,400 feet, it’s a natural fortress. It’s also home to huge caves and troupes of Barbary macaques that have taken up residence on The Rock’s upper reaches. On the streets below, you can explore dozens of British stores and pubs, and marvel that you’re a stone’s throw away from Spain.
La Coruna
La Coruna is a city shaped by the sea. You can see this influence in the Roman Tower of Hercules, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The lighthouse marks one end of the spectacular Paseo MarÃtimo promenade, one of the longest in Europe. Take a stroll to see other waterfront highlights like the Marina, Castelo de San Antón, the Millennium monument, and the most popular beaches—Orzán and Riazor.
Bordeaux
Bordeaux’s fortunes have long been tied to viticulture. As a result it is a handsome and cohesive city of incredible classical and neoclassical style, with monumental buildings and fine mansions financed by the almighty grape. Be sure to bring your tasting palate to sample some of the world’s best wines. |
