8 Night Cruise sailing from Lisbon to Barcelona aboard Azamara Pursuit.
Departing from Lisbon, one of the oldest cities in the world, we embark on a relaxing day at sea before arriving in spectacular Seville. With an overnight stay in this pulsing city, there’s plenty of time to visit the ornate Alcázar complex and Seville Cathedral (the largest Gothic cathedral in the world and the final resting place of Christopher Columbus), catch a flamenco performance, and experience Andalusian nightlife.
The next morning, switch gears from Spanish life to a little taste of Britain with a late-night stay in Gibraltar. Make your way to the top of the Rock of Gibraltar (be it by cable car or foot) for stunning views, St. Michaels Cave, and Barbary macaques.
Then, it’s a short cruise along the Costa del Sol to Malaga. Explore its exceptional museums—the Picasso is a standout—and eat, drink, and shop all through the historic city center. In Cartagena, wander along Calle Mayor for modern architecture and traditional tapas, and head to Conception Castle for stunning views of the city and harbor. Wake up the next morning in Valencia, home of impressive Gothic monuments and plazas, the Calatrava-designed City of Arts & Sciences, and a perfect paella.
The journey ends in Barcelona, renowned for its Gaudi architecture, Catalan flavors, marvellous museums, and Basque-style tapas bars.
Highlights of this cruise:
Lisbon
One of the oldest cities in the world, Lisbon is rich in architecture and criss-crossed by monument-studded grand boulevards. Must-sees include the church of Igreja de Sao Vicente de Fora, which dates back to the 12th century; Musee Calouste Gulbenkian, one of Europe’s leading fine arts museums; and Torre de Belém, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most famous monuments in Portugal.
Gibraltar
The towering Rock of Gibraltar is a sight to behold. Overlooking the mouth of the Mediterranean from a height of 1,400 feet, it’s a natural fortress. It’s also home to huge caves and troupes of Barbary macaques that have taken up residence on The Rock’s upper reaches. On the streets below, you can explore dozens of British stores and pubs, and marvel that you’re a stone’s throw away from Spain.
Malaga
Málaga is like a beautiful work of art. And it’s no wonder considering, considering it was the birthplace of Picasso. You’ll find a museum commemorating his birth here, which is a must-visit destination for art fans. Elsewhere, be sure to spend some time in the city’s Alcazaba, a 11th-century citadel that is home to three palaces, beautiful gardens, and opulent fountains.
Barcelona
Barcelona is a cosmopolitan masterpiece. With a history rich in art and architecture, medieval, Gothic, and modern influences can be seen all over the city. Start at the waterfront and stroll up the shady, tree-lined Las Ramblas boulevard and discover some of the city's best shopping and bustling cafes.
