Description |
21 Night Cruise sailing from Cape Town to Lisbon aboard Azamara Journey.
The adventures begin in captivating Cape Town, as we set sail for Namibia’s Walvis Bay. An overnight stay here gives you plenty of time to dive into its German colonial past and venture inland for a bucket-list worthy African safari. Enjoy two blissful days at sea while we make our way to Luanda, Angola’s shining capital. Discover an exciting mix of UNESCO World Heritage sites, meandering oceanside promenades, and ornate churches.
With an additional three days at sea, you can experience all that your boutique hotel at sea has to offer. Treat yourself at Sanctum Spa, dine at one of our specialty restaurants, or take in a spectacular show. Then awaken in Takoradi—Ghana’s beautiful laid-back beachside resort town with an exciting urban street-food scene.
Next, it’s on to the Ivory Coast and “the Paris of West Africaâ€, Abidjan, with its beguiling mix of striking architecture, open-air markets, and distinct neighborhoods. We continue to make our way up the West African coast to Banjul, The Gambia, where you can head to Albert Market for an authentic taste of local life.
After two more relaxing days at sea, we arrive in the Canary Islands. With a late-night stay on Gran Canaria—where a third of the island is under protection as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve—you have lots of time to explore its many landscapes, climates, and attractions. On Tenerife, soak in the sun at one of its many pristine beaches or head to Teide National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Following a stop in Madeira—home to picturesque villages, idyllic landscapes, and Madeira wine—the voyage ends in Lisbon, one of the oldest cities in the world.
Highlights of this cruise:
Cape Town
Journey to South Africa's Mother City and experience the vast beauty of a land shaped by two oceans. Stunning mountainscapes and miles of coast provide limitless outdoor adventure, while world-renowned restaurants, a booming LGBTQ community, and the outlying Cape Winelands make Cape Town a contemporary, cosmopolitan city with a global feel.
Luanda
Along a half a moon-shaped bay on Africa’s rugged western shores, you’ll discover Luanda, Angola’s shining capital. Blending a colonial past with modern construction, Luanda is home to towering memorials, UNESCO World Heritage sites, meandering oceanside promenades, and ornate churches.
Takoradi
Ghana’s third-largest city, Takoradi seamlessly blends laid-back beach vibes with exciting urban energy. Market Circle is the hub of activity, and home to delicious street food. Beautiful seaside resorts are close to port, and the surrounding area offers an in-depth perspective on the region’s slave trading past.
Banjul
It’s referred to as Africa’s Smiling Coast. Not only because it’s home to the mouth of the Gambia River, it’s also because the locals are famously friendly and eager to share their colorful culture with visitors. Head to Albert Market for an authentic look, touch, and taste of local life, and head to a nature reserve where you’ll find the closest tropical forest to Europe.
Funchal
Madeira has its share of captivating squares, picturesque villages, idyllic landscapes, and stunning views. It also offers some unexpected pleasures, like it's wildly different parks and gardens. Take a cable car up to Monte so that you may descend by toboggan sledge. Originally a form of fast transport for Monte residents, the trip involves sliding at high speed over narrow, winding streets.
Lisbon
One of the oldest cities in the world, Lisbon is rich in architecture and criss-crossed by monument-studded grand boulevards. Must-sees include the church of Igreja de Sao Vicente de Fora, which dates back to the 12th century; Musee Calouste Gulbenkian, one of Europe’s leading fine arts museums; and Torre de Belém, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most famous monuments in Portugal. |
