With a late-night stay here, you can marvel at St John’s Co-Cathedral, take in fantastic views from Upper Barrakka Gardens, and stroll along the harbor boardwalk.

Then it’s on to starkly beautiful Trapani, the gateway to Sicily and the medieval streets of Erice. Arrive the next day in Cagliari, where you can dive into over 25 centuries of history through its Roman ruins, museums, churches, and galleries.

Enjoy another blissful day at sea and awake in Cartagena, a seaside port rich in history, culture, and archeological wonders old and new. In Malaga, a late-night stay means you can experience its vibrant nightlife, as well as meander through the Alcazaba, visit the excellent Picasso Museum, and sample Andalusian cuisine. With an early morning arrival in Gibraltar, you’ll be able to switch Spanish gears for a little taste of Britain. Make your way to the top of the Rock of Gibraltar (be it by cable car or foot) for stunning views, St. Michaels Cave, and Barbary macaques. The voyage ends with an overnight stay in Lisbon, one of the oldest cities in the world.

Highlights of this cruise:

Athens
Start your journey in Piraeus with an archaeological walk past landmarks like the Temple of Olympian Zeus, Ancient Agora, and of course, the Acropolis. Afterwards, head to the Central Market for a feast of fresh fruit and veggies, nuts, olives, and Grecian cheese. Finally, check out a local taverna where you can rub elbows with the locals well into the wee hours of the night.

Valletta
Everywhere you look in Valletta, there’s wonder to behold. Look down in St. John’s Co-Cathedral and discover “The most beautiful floor in the world.” Look up while wandering the streets and see colorful balconies filled with locals going about their day. Look beyond the city’s small size (less than half a square mile) and you’ll find a blend of old and new architecture that’s not to miss.

Cagliari
The colorful capital of Sardinia, there are over 25 centuries worth of history to discover in Cagliari. Beautiful beaches, rugged cliffs, and breathtaking underwater caves offer plenty of outdoor adventure, while the Il Castelo old town district is full of cobblestoned streets and quaint shops and cafes.

Malaga
Málaga is like a beautiful work of art. And it’s no wonder considering, considering it was the birthplace of Picasso. You’ll find a museum commemorating his birth here, which is a must-visit destination for art fans. Elsewhere, be sure to spend some time in the city’s Alcazaba, a 11th-century citadel that is home to three palaces, beautiful gardens, and opulent fountains.

Gibraltar
The towering Rock of Gibraltar is a sight to behold. Overlooking the mouth of the Mediterranean from a height of 1,400 feet, it’s a natural fortress. It’s also home to huge caves and troupes of Barbary macaques that have taken up residence on The Rock’s upper reaches. On the streets below, you can explore dozens of British stores and pubs, and marvel that you’re a stone’s throw away from Spain.

Lisbon
One of the oldest cities in the world, Lisbon is rich in architecture and criss-crossed by monument-studded grand boulevards. Must-sees include the church of Igreja de Sao Vicente de Fora, which dates back to the 12th century; Musee Calouste Gulbenkian, one of Europe’s leading fine arts museums; and Torre de Belém, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most famous monuments in Portugal.
