10 Night Cruise sailing from Athens roundtrip aboard Azamara Journey.
Your Greek adventure begins in Athens, where Europe’s oldest city offers endless opportunities to explore striking architecture and legendary historic sites. After you depart from Athens, you’ll spend a night at sea, where you can unwind and enjoy Broadway-caliber entertainment or a pampering spa treatment as you gear up for the rest of your journey. In Kavala, picture-perfect beaches beckon, or spend the day shopping or exploring the 15th-century castle that crowns the city. Next, Thessaloniki’s 15 UNESCO World Heritage sites await, as does a lively nightlife scene that you can soak up during a late-night visit. In Volos, spend time strolling the city streets and working up an appetite for a fresh platter of calamari, paired perfectly with the beloved local spirit, tsipouro.
Mykonos is next on the agenda, famed for its brilliant whitewashed structures, bright blue roofs, and gorgeous, sun-drenched harbor views. On a late stay in Rhodes, explore one of Europe’s best-preserved medieval cities before cruising on to Marmaris, a bustling, social city where Turkish delights (both cuisine and souvenirs) are plentiful. Back in Greece, you’ll stop in Santorini, where you can take the cable car up the mountain to witness an incredible sunset view—thanks to another late stay in port. Next up is Chania, where you can tour a museum–or simply wander the city streets–for a glimpse into Greek and Cretean history. Your journey concludes back in Athens, where you can revisit old favorites or explore the sites you may have missed on day one.
Highlights of this cruise:
Athens
Start your journey in Piraeus with an archaeological walk past landmarks like the Temple of Olympian Zeus, Ancient Agora, and of course, the Acropolis. Afterwards, head to the Central Market for a feast of fresh fruit and veggies, nuts, olives, and Grecian cheese. Finally, check out a local taverna where you can rub elbows with the locals well into the wee hours of the night.
Thessaloniki
As Greece’s second-biggest city and the Byzantine Empire’s second-most important city, the word “second†is often used to describe this port, but we’re here to tell you: Thessaloniki is anything but second-rate!
Mykonos
Picture perfect is the best way to describe Mykonos. Idyllic in every way, from the brilliant blue water in its harbor to the rows of 16th-century Venetian windmills, Mykonos is a postcard come to life! Spend your days strolling delightful cobblestone streets and visiting artisan craft shops. And when the sun goes down, discover why locals refer to this hedonistic city as the Ibiza of Greece!
Rhodes
First on your agenda should be the Rhodes waterfront where once stood the Colossus of Rhodes, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Just a short ride away, the medieval town of Lindos features houses stacked like giant sugar cubes on a steep hill. Hitch a donkey ride to the acropolis at the top for spectacular views of the town and Saint Paul’s Bay.
Chania
Venetian splendor gives Crete's second largest city a distinctly Italian air. Greek and Ottoman influences add to the city's unique history and culture—each era certainly worth exploring. Framed by a dramatic mountain backdrop, Chania is an exceptional destination for history buffs, with plenty of tavernas and cafés to recharge after a day of discovery. |
