Highlights of this cruise:
ROME
Venture through Civitavecchia, noted for its fine seafood and beautiful monuments. Then, travel to the Eternal City of Rome, with more than 2,500 years of history and ancient landmarks that will leave you with memories for a lifetime.
CAPRI
Home to sparkling bay waters, vibrantly colored flowers, and breathtaking sea caves and grottos, Capri has been enchanting travelers since Roman times, when aristocrats and emperors came to escape the summer's heat and build villas within its stunning landscape. Composed of two main villages – Capri Town, highlighted by the famous Piazzetta, a popular meeting spot, and Anacapri, located on the slopes of Mount Solaro. The spectacular Blue Grotto is renowned for its illuminated blue waters.
POSITANO
Considered the most photogenic town on the famed Amalfi Coast, Positano stands nearly upright on a blooming cliff, its narrow streets lined with boutiques, cafés and colorful homes leading down a steep hillside to its iconic pebbled beachfront. Easily explored by foot, so as to stroll amidst lemon trees beneath a canopy of bougainvillea to see yachts dotting the harbor below, be sure to visit the Chiesa di Santa Maria Assunta with its majolica-tiled dome and Byzantine icon of the Madonna.
TAORMINA/GIARDINI NAXOS
The largest island in the Mediterranean Sea, Sicily was for centuries the center of the known world. Its unique geographic position made the island vulnerable to attacks, while also making it a meeting place of Mediterranean civilizations, a bridge between the East and West. Situated at the foot of Mt. Etna, Taormina embodies the essence of Sicily.
OTRANTO
Located on Italy’s heel, where the Faro della Palascia lighthouse marks the country’s eastern-most point, Otranto is known for its seafront cafés and sandy beaches. Its history, however, is one of invasions. While the city’s 11th-century cathedral is renowned for its mosaics, it’s also where 800 souls escaped a Turkish invasion in 1480. Refusing to renounce their Christian faith for Islam, they died within the cathedral walls. A 1771 Papal decree beatified them as the Blessed Martyrs of Otranto.
KOTOR
Few places in the world boast such clear architectural accounts of their full histories as does UNESCO-listed Kotor and its bay. Roam the city squares and enjoy sweeping ocean views as you follow footsteps through time, including fortifications dating from the 9th century, significant churches and cathedrals from the 12th-15th centuries, the 17th-century Prince’s Palace and the 19th-century Napoleon’s Theatre.
DUBROVNIK
Dubrovnik is one of the most recognizable cities in Europe. Behind the walls, find sleek Venetian-style buildings and a rich Slavic culture. Home to lavender, olive oil, and gorgeous beaches, Dubrovnik will leave a lasting impression on all your senses. |
