Description |
12 Night cruise sailing from Amsterdam to Dublin onboard Azamara Quest.
Begin your voyage by exploring Amsterdam’s canals, museums, and colorful neighborhoods before boarding the Azamara Quest® and spending a day at sea–the perfect opportunity to savor fine dining, indulge in a massage, or work up a sweat in the fitness center before your Scotland adventure begins. Start with an overnight stay in Edinburgh, home to castles, crown jewels, and, of course, the world-famous links! Don’t miss the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo for one of the country’s finest displays of traditional music, dance, and culture. Next up is Dundee, renowned for its arts, design, and culture offerings. Admire serene waterfalls and lochs in Invergordon (be sure to keep your eyes peeled for Bessie).
Cruise to Lerwick in the Shetland Islands, a remote port that offers stunning scenery and charming townsfolk, and then on to Kirkwall in the Orkney Islands, 70 low-lying isles with more than 5,000 years of history. Stroll through Stornoway’s quaint streets, then discover Oban, a tiny town whose beauty defies its size–you might recognize sights around town from Downton Abbey and Harry Potter. Finally, your Scottish voyage concludes with an overnight in Glasgow, where you can take in the local nightlife and toast to your adventure with a wee dram of Scotch whiskey.
Highlights of this cruise:
Amsterdam, Netherlands
With more canals than Venice, Amsterdam is a winding wonder of waterways just waiting to be explored. Whether by boat or by foot, learn about the city's past inhabitants such as Rembrandt, Van Gogh, and Anne Frank. You'll soon discover there's so much more to Amsterdam than windmills and wooden shoes.
Leith, (Edinburgh), Scotland
To discover Edinburgh, head to its historic heart with a walk down The Royal Mile. At the top, perched above the city, is Edinburgh Castle, home to the crown jewels and sweeping views. At the far end is the Palace of Holyroodhouse, the Queen’s official residence when in Scotland. Buildings steeped in history line the route between the two, with most converted into shops, restaurants, and pubs.
Dundee, Scotland
See why Dundee is referred as the City of Discoveries. A golf-lovers paradise, this is the birthplace of the game and the perfect spot to squeeze in a round. It’s also the ideal location to brush up on your naval history with a tour of the HMS Unicorn, a nearly 200-year-old ship from the golden age of sail to life. Afterward, relax by the River Tay and take in the views of Scotland’s hidden gem.
Invergordon, Scotland
A popular port of call, Invergordon combines a superb natural setting of mountains, tumbling waterfalls, rushing rivers, magnificent gardens, and serene lochs—including Loch Ness and its famous resident. Some must-sees include the castles Dunrobin and Cawdor (reportedly Macbeth’s castle), the flower displays of Beauly, Culloden Battlefield, Shin Falls, Inverness, and Glenmorangie Distillery.
Lerwick, Shetland Islands, Scotland
Secluded and seaswept, the Shetland Islands are home to a unique blend of Scandinavian and Scottish culture. Fiddle music floats down streets named to honor the old Norse language. Rocky cliffs and rich farmland are yours to explore over 100 islands that embrace a slower, more authentic pace of life.
Kirkwall, Orkney Islands, Scotland
The 70 islands of Orkney are a rolling panorama of fertile fields, heather-cloaked moors, and lakes. The walls of St. Magnus Cathedral dominate Kirkwall—the capital and hub for linking east and west. In summer, whales, dolphins, and thousands of seabirds congregate in and around the coastal waters. And at Skara Brae, see an amazingly preserved Neolithic village dating back more than 5,000 years.
Stornoway, Isle Of Lewis, Scotland
Colorful row houses and red-hulled fishing vessels line the shores of this picturesque port. The largest town in the Outer Hebrides, Stornoway serves as a gateway to the Western Isles. Discover quaint independent bookstores, homestyle bakeries, and traditional pubs. Dine on fresh-caught seafood. Stroll the grounds of historic Lews Castle on this Islay adventure.
Oban, Scotland
Your destination for a captivating Scottish adventure. Storied castles and stunning Highland views. Cinematic landscapes and charming local culture. Get outside and explore the Scotland of your dreams in Oban by kayak, train, or dram full of whisky.
Glasgow, Scotland
Glasgow is a lively and cosmopolitan city, making a name as a vibrant center of 21st century design, set against a background of exceptional Victorian architecture and state-of-the-art glass towers which house a growing financial services industry. The real Glasgow can be found in the pubs, where everything from the weather to solving the world’s problems are discussed over a pint.
Dublin, Ireland
There’s a story waiting around every corner in Dublin. Spend time in Temple Bar and watch the city come alive, take a ghost tour to discover Dracula’s unnerving connection to Dublin, and behold a view you’ll never forget from the Observation Wheel. Of course, no Irish adventure is complete without a trip to the Guinness Storehouse where you’ll learn the history of Ireland’s most popular stout. |
