Description |
8 Night cruise sailing from Los Angeles to Vancouver onboard Seabourn Odyssey.
Seabourn Odyssey was built by the Italian company T. Mariotti S.p.A., located in Genoa, Italy and named in Venice in June of 2009. On that occasion, the guests on board for the maiden voyage were all honored as the ship’s godparents, and a plaque with their names was permanently mounted on a wall inside the ship. Seabourn Odyssey was designed by the same architectural team, Petr Yran and Bjorn Storbraaten, who designed the original Seabourn ships. Seabourn Odyssey’s 229 ocean-view suites are divided into 13 categories, with interior measurements from 295 to over 1,200 square feet. Ninety percent have private verandas, which add from 65 to over 350 square feet of additional private living space.
Highlights in accommodations are the exceptional Wintergarden Suites, which have a private glassed-in Solarium with a soaking tub and a lounging bed. This suite also features a veranda that is bowed out, giving wonderful views along the side of the ship. The Signature Suites, located all the way forward on Deck 7, have over 900 square feet of inside space and a spectacular wrap-around veranda of 353 square feet. In addition to more larger suites, Seabourn Odyssey’s additional size is utilized to create more open deck space, and a variety of public rooms and dining venues.
Highlights of this cruise:
Los Angeles, California, US
Los Angeles is a city spinning with energy and creativity, where tomorrow's trends are born, nurtured and released. Having one of the best climates in the world, Los Angeles draws visitors year-round from all over the world. Officially founded in 1781, the modern-day metropolis of Los Angeles sprawls across over 4,000 square miles between the beautiful Pacific Ocean and the snow-capped San Gabriel Mountains. Los Angeles is considered the entertainment capital of the world, a vibrant city of visual delights with more museums than any other U.S. city.
Monterey, California, US
Monterey Bay is a yawning curve cut away from the Pacific coast of California between San Francisco and the coastal slopes known as Big Sur. On its southern shore, the Spanish mission town of Monterey sprawls across a pine-shaded peninsula. Its waterfront Cannery ow once processed the bounty of oil-rich sardines from the bay. Today they are mostly converted into luxury hotels, restaurants, galleries and other tourist businesses. He town is still a working fishing port, and Fisherman’s Wharf is a place to catch a glimpse of the trade that made the town rich. At the Row’s other end, the spectacular Monterey Bay Aquarium offers visitors innumerable insights into the workings and denizens of the world’s seas, including a huge sea tank showing the rich ecosystem of the Bay’s kelp forests. Outside, a plaza allows visitors t watch endearing sea otters as they feed on molluscs, play and rest atop the floating mats of kelp. Further south, the charming artists’ colony of Carmel and the world-renowned seaside golf courses of Pebble Beach Resort are accessible from the spectacular 17-Mile Drive.
Victoria, British Columbia, Canada
Stunning structures in the Inner Harbor area such as the Parliament Buildings and the Empress Hotel indelibly impress visitors with Victoria’s English heritage. And indeed the city’s foundation by the Hudson’s Bay Company in 1843 set the imperial British tone that is reinforced today by stately homes and charming tearooms, the elaborately formal Butchart Gardens, colorful horse trolleys and red double decker busses. Yet the city also boasts a wealth of First Nations heritage and the second largest Chinatown anywhere. During the Gold Rush era, fully half the population was Chinese, and incredibly narrow Fan Tan Alley allows visitors to recapture that feeling. Thunderbird Park displays the iconic totem poles of the Coast Salish, and further cultural artifacts and natural history features are displayed in the impressive Royal BC Museum. A host of museums and galleries vie for attention, from general interest to specialized collections such as the BC Aviation Museum, the Maritime Museum or the center displaying some 160 works of Canada’s famous wildlife painter Robert Bateman. Culinary curiosity can be satisfied in the dim sum palaces of Chinatown, any number of sedate Edwardian tearooms, or even the august surroundings of the Legislative Dining Room in the Parliament Buildings. For those planning a day in Victoria, the challenge is the city’s embarrassment of attractive and interesting riches from which to choose.
Vancouver, B.C., CA
The humble beginnings of the City of Vancouver, in the settlement of Gastown on Burrard Inlet, rose out of the old growth forests and the sawdust of the old Hastings Mill. Its location between the Pacific Ocean and the snow-capped coastal mountains creates one of the most idyllic settings of any city in the world. As a world-class city it has the best of both worlds, intermingling urban sophistication with a sense of wilderness and outdoor adventure. Whether you are exploring Vancouver's diverse downtown core, strolling through the giant trees of Stanley Park or taking in the 20 miles (30 km) of uninterrupted waterfront trails along the seawall, you are bound to fall in love with Canada's third largest metropolitan center, which is consistently ranked as one of most livable cities on earth. In 1886, the Canadian Pacific Railway reached Vancouver, completing Canada’s 'National Dream' of a connection between east and west, and opening up new trade routes between Asia and Europe. The city was named for British captain and explorer George Vancouver.
