Your Parisian rhapsody... flows through the heart of the city of l’amour, meanders through painted landscapes and flowers with romance in seaside villages and exquisite gardens along the Seine...
Impressions of France... rendered on canvas on an after-hours private visit to Musée du Louvre, quickly captured by street artists in Montmartre, gilded into a golden palace at Versailles, indulged during a château dinner, distilled into apple brandy and cider, carved into a clifftop castle, and floating in a Water Garden... linger long after you return home. Follow the Seine to coastal Normandy on a 10-day journey that’s sure to impress. Discover the art of Paris for two nights before a 7-night cruise to Rouen, Honfleur and Giverny, immortalized by Impressionist artists. Visit D-Day beaches, sample Calvados where it is made, dine at a private château and more before returning to Paris via riverboat.
Highlights of this cruise:
Paris
Paris is the capital city of France and every year millions of people come to Paris to marvel at its beauty, savour its exceptional cuisine and indulge in its world-famous shopping. Known as the 'City of Light', Paris benefitted from a huge re modelling program that started in 1852 which gave rise to its current layout, boulevardes, gardens and parks.
The most famous part of Paris is the Champs Elysees, a wide Boulevarde running from the Arc de Triomphe to Place de la Concorde.
Paris has some of the best know landmarks in the world, apart from the Arc de Triomphe it boasts Notre Dame, The Eiffel Tower, The Louvre and more. Its great gardens include the Tuileries and Luxembourg gardens.
Divided by the River Seine the City of Paris is relatively easy to enjoy on foot as many of the key landmarks are relatively close to each other. For the bolder tourist Paris now has the ‘Velib’ bike rental system which offers a very cheap and practical way to get around the city.
Le Havre
Le Havre is a city in Normandy, northern France, located on the English Channel, at the mouth of the Seine. It is the cruising gateway to France and the romance of Paris.
Le Havre has been classified as a World Heritage Site since July 2005. The city has one university and a strong sporting heritage, with “Le HACâ€, the oldest professional association football club in
The town's finest glory is the Bassin de Commerce where you'll find buildings with tinted glass and the Espace Oscar Niemeyer, a square named after the Brazilian who designed the two controversial cultural centres found here. Le Havre's wide, rocky beach has won the blue flag award for cleanliness twice!
Giverny
Giverny is a small French village 80 km to the west of the capital city Paris. Giverny sits on the "right bank" of the River Seine where the river Epte meets the Seine. The village is best known as the rural retreat of the Impressionist painter Claude Monet (1840-1926). |
