10 Night Cruise sailing from Southampton to Bordeaux onboard Azamara Quest.
Your voyage begins in Southampton, where you can explore the local history with a walking tour of medieval sites or ponder the mysteries of nearby Stonehenge. Near Honfleur, visit the D-Day Landing Beaches or stroll the cobbled laneways and admire the tall, narrow homes that line them. Next, an overnight in Paris provides ample time to savor delectable dining, view world-famous attractions or simply unwind at a chic outdoor café. In Cherbourg, stroll along the D-Day beaches or explore battlefields and bunkers.
Wander the winding streets of St. Malo, a walled city that’s packed with museums, cafés, and shops, or head to the nearby island of Mont St. Michel, a dramatic abbey perched above the sea. Next, spend a night at sea enjoying Azamara’s Broadway-caliber entertainment and a full suite of indulgent spa offerings before docking in the Loire Valley for an overnight stay. Explore Nantes’ picturesque gardens and galleries, then cruise to Bordeaux, where an overnight stay offers plenty of opportunity to sample the region’s excellent wines.
Highlights of this cruise:
Southampton, England
It was the departure point for the Mayflower in 1620, and for the ill-fated Titanic in 1912. The charms of London are not far away, but pray tarry in the south to explore other wonders, including Bath, with its natural hot springs and stunning architecture and the mysterious megaliths of Stonehenge, or venture all the way west to Lands End, and the wild moorlands and pirate haunts of Cornwall.
Honfleur, France
Honfleur is a lively port and the maritime influence is evident. Even Sainte Catherine church has a ceiling resembling an overturned ship hull. The square surrounding the church gives way to cobbled lanes of half-timbered houses and elegant manors. The quality of light has long attracted artists—including Monet, Turner, Seurat—all of whom stayed at Saint Siméon, now Honfleur's most luxurious hotel.
Paris (Rouen), France
Rouen is home to the Cathedral of Notre Dame, its cast-iron spire the tallest in France. Get lost in the old town's labyrinth of lanes, and stop for a moment at the Rehabilitation Cross, where in 1431 Joan of Arc was consigned to the flames. Paris, City of Light, is within easy reach. Stroll along the Champs Elysées, take in the view from the Eiffel Tower, or immerse yourself in the Louvre.
Cherbourg (D-Day Landing Beaches), France
Occupied by the Germans in WWII, Cherbourg has long been a city of maritime significance. A tour up the coast takes you to the beaches of Normandy, steeped in military history. Stay in the city and explore La Cité de la Mer—a scientific and historic museum, and aquarium rolled into one. Don't miss a chance to see the imposing Mont Saint-Michel as it appears to rise from the ocean at low tide.
St. Malo, France
History comes to life in the seaside city of St. Malo. Explore the cobblestone streets of this walled city to discover stories of pirates, treasures, corsairs, and adventures on the high seas. Pour through the region's history in La Demeure de Corsaire (a ship owner’s townhouse built in the 1700s). Afterward, stop in at one of the many cafes serving crepes and cider—a regional specialty!
Nantes (Loire Valley), France
Known as a city of reinvention, Nantes shines with Gothic architecture and quirky, cool art installations. It’s the ideal blend of modern and medieval, where castles and cathedrals meet magical mechanical animals and funky restaurants and galleries. Shop the elegant boutiques of Passage Pommeraye, and set out on a river cruise to discover the chateaus and vineyards of the breathtaking Loire Valley.
Bordeaux, France
Wine lovers will love Bordeaux. It's the industry that fuels the region, and has financed some spectacular chateaux. Pay a visit to Pauillac, Sauternes, Margaux, and Saint-Emilion to learn wine production, and of course sample as glass or two. Explore over 25 acres of spectacular English gardens in the heart of the city at Jardin Public and discover underground wonder in Saint Emilion. |
