SeaDream Yacht Club was founded in September of 2001 by Norwegian entrepreneur Atle Brynestad who founded Seabourn Cruise Line and Larry Pimentel, who was President of Seabourn under Brynestad and later President and CEO of the merged companies Cunard-Seabourn. Pimentel is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of SeaDream and a co-owner. The two friends, Brynestad and Pimentel, brought into SeaDream a small group of management colleagues with vast travel industry experience as well as shipboard officers and staff of unequaled ability.
Why is SeaDream Called a Yacht Club? As the Chairman says “We are not a cruise line. We are a yacht company and we provide a yachting experience.” Yachting features an open and unstructured ambience that provides guests the ability to fulfill their own dreams – call them “seadreams” if you will – at their own pace and in their own style. We like to express this as “No clocks, no crowds, no lines, no stress.” The key word for the SeaDream yachting experience is “unstructured. It’s all about personal choice. Think of it as a free form holiday in which guests fall into a “seadream” and believe that they are aboard their own yacht. That’s why we say SeaDream is a yacht company; not a cruise line.
What are some of the highlights of the SeaDream yachting experience? Flexible Schedules and Itineraries – Basically, SeaDream I and II sail on scheduled, seven-day schedules and itineraries. Nevertheless, although SeaDream yachts depart their first port of call and arrive at their last port of call as scheduled, arrivals and departures at intermediate ports are not necessarily cast in stone. Captains have the authority to adjust for local opportunities. So the yachts frequently make unscheduled calls at small ports to visit a local fish market, for example, or to remain longer than scheduled in a secluded bay so guests can enjoy a few more hours of water sports.
Overnighting in Key Ports – Let’s go back to cruise ships for a moment. Cruise ships usually arrive at ports of call in the early morning and depart in the evening of the same day.
But SeaDream yachts overnight at many ports of call; for example: One port in the Caribbean where there is an overnight is Gustavia on the French island, St. Barts. When you sail in the Mediterranean there is an overnight at the French Riviera port of St. Tropez.
The point is the action doesn’t even get started in ports such as these until late in the evening and we have found that guests are active people who don’t want to miss anything.
Officers and Staff Lead Guests on Personal Off-Ship Experiences – Officers and staff know the ports of call like the backs of their hands. They are experts and they are also active, interesting people just like the guests they serve. So, on each sailing Officers and Staff frequently lead guests to their favorite sites for their favorite experiences. So, guests might have the chance to go snorkeling with the Captain in an area he knows well and enjoys. Or, the Activities Director might lead guests on a shoreside hike that he has uncovered on a previous visit. Guest may also want to join the Chef for a visit to his favorite patisserie or to a fine fish market where he plans to select some delicacies to put on the menu that evening. There is no cost for these shoreside opportunities.

There are eight Commodore Suites and they average 390 spacious sq.ft. / 36.23 sq. meters. Individual entertainment centers are featured in each living area.

Lisbon, Portugal
Lisbon is the capital city of Portugal. a lively and multicultural place. Pre World War I wooden trams clank up steep gradients, past mosaic pavements and Art Nouveau cafés, and the medieval, village-like quarter of Alfama hangs below the city’s castle. Modern Lisbon has kept an easy-going pace and boasts a vibrant, cosmopolitan identity from large communities of Africans and Asians. In 1994, Lisbon was European City of Culture, while in 1998 the city hosted the last great Expo of the millennium.
Oporto, Lisbon
Straddling the mouth of the Douro River, the splendid city of Oporto holds such architectural importance that the entire historic center has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage site. A great place to begin your exploration is Praça da Liberdade, a lengthy public esplanade lined with graceful 19th-century buildings. You’ll find the city has no shortage of marvelous churches, from the imposingly fortified Porto Cathedral to the graciously appointed Clérigos Church, whose soaring bell tower offers panoramic vistas over the city’s picturesque red-tile roofs. In the 1906 Lello Bookstore, prepare to be swept away by elaborate art nouveau features including a sinuous double staircase and a luminous stained-glass skylight. But what’s a visit to Oporto without sampling its signature export, the fortified wine that shares the city’s name. Tour one of the illustrious cellars dotting the Douro’s southern bank, where port is crafted just as it has been for centuries, and savor exquisite samples of the sweet libation. When evening comes, take advantage of Oporto’s reputation as the best place to eat in Portugal, perhaps choosing among the delectable cod dishes for which the city is renowned.
Cadiz, Spain
Cadiz is believed to have been founded some 3,000 years ago which could make this port city the oldest in Western Europe. The city has so much to offer its visitors with its commercial importance, stunning beaches, regional cuisine and the Unesco Awarded Donana National Park. There’s several significant landmarks in Cadiz, some of which include the yellow-domed Cathedral, the ancient roman theatre, an 18th-century watch tower, the city walls and so much more. SeaDream docks in the heart of this Andalusian town.
Casablanca, Morocco
The name Casablanca can’t help but conjure romance, and you’ll be glad to learn that this reputation is rightly earned. Stroll among the locals in expansive Mohammed V Square, which is ringed by regal buildings melding French colonial, Moorish and art deco influences, all anchored by an exuberant fountain. The French influence is also felt in the 1930s Habous District, a delightful jumble of streets peppered with bustling souks, handsome mosques and ornate archways. Gaze in awe at the Hassan II Mosque, whose soaring minaret is said to be the world’s tallest. A bit further south lies the Portuguese City of Mazagan, a UNESCO World Heritage site recognized for its beautifully preserved Renaissance military construction. Walk along the ramparts for terrific views of the sea and then descend into the colonnaded cisterns, where shafts of light shining from above contribute to the immensely atmospheric experience. Heading north, the glorious Andalusian Gardens of Rabat astound with gorgeous grounds landscaped in a quintessentially Moorish style. Don’t leave Casablanca without sampling a contemporary twist on a classic tagine in the hip Gauthier Quarter, a perfect embodiment of the city’s ardent love affair with both past and future.
Malaga, Spain
Malaga, together with adjacent towns and municipalities such as Rincon de la Victoria, Torremolinos, Benalmadena, Fuengirola, Alhaurin de la Torre, Mijas and Marbella, forms the Malaga metropolitan area. The important cultural infrastructure and the rich artistic heritage have culminated in the nomination of Malaga as a candidate for the 2016 European Capital of Culture. The internationally acclaimed painter and sculptor Pablo Picasso and actor Antonio Banderas were both born in Malaga. Ibiza, Balearic Islands
Ibiza town is the largest city on this 3rd largest Balearic Spanish Island. It lies 79 kilometers (49 miles) off the coast of Valencia, in eastern Spain. Ibiza has become famous for its incredible nightlife and the electronic music that originated on the island. This Unesco awarded city has some great land adventure options including resort golf, winetasting, exploring the Dalt Villa and mountain biking to name a few. We try to stay late in the evening so guests can also get a taste of the nightlife.
Barcelona, Spain
Barcelona, a Unesco Awarded City, is the second largest in Spain. It was the 12th-most-visited city in the world, and 4th most visited in Europe after London, Paris, and Rome. Especially remarkable is the work of architect Antoni Gaudi, which can be seen throughout the city. His best-known work is the immense but still unfinished church of the Sagrada Familia, which has been under construction since 1882 and is still financed by private donations. Completion is planned for 2026. SeaDream almost always docks downtown at the World Trade Center and is steps away from the famous boulevard of La Rambla.
