7 Night Cruise sailing from Vienna to Nuremberg onboard Savor. Hotel stays pre-cruise in Krakow and post-cruise in Berlin.

Moments of history shape the sights you’ll see in the cities featured on the Danube River, Berlin and Kraków included.

Three nights in Berlin chronicle past political divides with a look back at Iron Curtain curfews, Jewish hardships and wartime woes while cultural narratives in the museums on Museum Island showcase an evolution of art through the ages. Onboard your Tauck riverboat for a 7-night cruise, you’ll visit picturesque Bavarian towns like Bayreuth, where composer Richard Wagner lived in 1872; Nuremberg, acclaimed as a leading arts and cultural center in the 15th and 16th centuries, Kehlheim, where the Danube meets the Main-Danube Canal and BMWs race into view; and cobblestoned Straubing, dating back to 6,000 BC. Crossing into Austria, stop at Linz for a walking tour or boat ride in the nearby Lake District, explore Krems and the Wachau Valley by bicycle and attend an evening in Vienna at a private palace. During a three-night stay at the Sheraton Grand Krakow, overlooking beautiful Wawel Castle, poignant pauses in Kraków, Auschwitz and Kazimierz pay homage to lives lost in tragic times.

Highlights of this cruise:

Vienna
Vienna is a unique blend of the historic and the modern with a wealth of architecture and artistic and musical heritage. Many of the world’s most important composers, including Beethoven and Mozart, have lived and performed behind Vienna’s Baroque façades. In addition to this Baroque splendor, there are excellent examples of Art Nouveau architecture .

The heart of Vienna is the Innerestadt where some of Vienna’s most popular tourist attractions can be found, along with pedestrianized streets lined with countless shops, cafés, bars and restaurants. The center point is the Graben (literally ‘moat’), which is a wide square lined with shops and pavement cafés under large umbrellas. Following the demolition of the city walls in 1857, the Ringstrasse was laid out and some of Vienna’s most beautiful buildings were built along it, between 1858 and 1865. Among the most important are the Staatsoper (State Opera House), Kunsthistorisches Museum (Museum of Fine Arts), Naturhistorisches Museum (Natural History Museum), Parlament (Parliament), Rathaus (City Hall) and Burgtheater.

Krems
Krems is a riverside town in the Danube’s Wachau Valley in the tourist region of Lower Austria. It is the fifth-largest city of Lower Austria and is approximately 70 kilometres (43 mi) west of Vienna. Krems is known for its world class wine production and its proximity to the Danube.

The historical center of Krems is one of the most beautiful in Europe. Over the centuries, builders and architects have created a unique cityscape that has been lovingly cared for and preserved. In 1975 Krems was singled out as a “Model City for Historical Preservation” and in 2000 it was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Nuremberg
Nuremberg is a city in Bavaria, Germany. It is the largest town in Franconia, a region in the north of Bavaria and is located approximately two hours north of Munich. Nuremberg’s Alstadt, or Old Town is surrounded by a mighty city-wall that is 5km long. Cobble-stoned squares and half-timbered houses make it easy to picture Nuremberg’s medieval past. This is also where sights such as Dürerhaus are to be found and in the festive season, thousands of people from all over the world visit the famous Christmas market on the Hauptmarkt. The city of Nuremberg expanded on both banks of the river Pegnitz and because of this, the Old Town is often divided into the Seebald-quarter and the Lorenz-quarter, both of which are named after the two main parish churches. Each quarter has its own distinct character.
