In 2009, Seabourn again raised the bar with the debut of Seabourn Odyssey, hailed as “a game-changer for the ultra-luxury segment.” Although larger than the original Seabourn sisters, Seabourn Odyssey carries just 458 guests and offers a wealth of amenities made possible by the highest ratio of space per guest in the cruise industry, including the largest spa on any luxury ship and generous private verandas on 90 percent of her suites. Seabourn Odyssey has since been joined by two identical sisters, Seabourn Sojourn in 2010 and Seabourn Quest in 2011. Our first 600-passenger ship, Seabourn Encore, was delivered in 2016 and a second 600-passenger ship, Seabourn Ovation, was delivered Spring 2018.

Seabourn Odyssey was built by the Italian company T. Mariotti S.p.A., located in Genoa, Italy and named in Venice in June of 2009. On that occasion, the guests on board for the maiden voyage were all honored as the ship’s godparents, and a plaque with their names was permanently mounted on a wall inside the ship. Seabourn Odyssey was designed by the same architectural team, Petr Yran and Bjorn Storbraaten, who designed the original Seabourn ships. Seabourn Odyssey’s 229 ocean-view suites are divided into 13 categories, with interior measurements from 295 to over 1,200 square feet. Ninety percent have private verandas, which add from 65 to over 350 square feet of additional private living space.
Highlights in accommodations are the exceptional Wintergarden Suites, which have a private glassed-in Solarium with a soaking tub and a lounging bed. This suite also features a veranda that is bowed out, giving wonderful views along the side of the ship. The Signature Suites, located all the way forward on Deck 7, have over 900 square feet of inside space and a spectacular wrap-around veranda of 353 square feet. In addition to more larger suites, Seabourn Odyssey’s additional size is utilized to create more open deck space, and a variety of public rooms and dining venues.

Miami, Florida, US
Miami is the busiest cruise port in the world, hosting a myriad of ships year-round from all over the globe. Although it is technically not on the Caribbean Sea, no other American city exudes more of the diverse tropical appeal of the Caribbean. The city is home to a large and vibrant immigrant population that blends snowbird refugees from more northern climes with emigres from all Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as sizable groups from Europe, the Middle East and Asia. From the hot-blooded Art Deco haunts of South Beach to the natural wonders of the UNESCO-inscribed Everglades and the laid-back charms of the Keys, South Florida offers a bounty of appealing attractions that make an extended stay in the region nearly mandatory for those either embarking or disembarking here.
Santa Marta, Colombia
Santa Marta curves around a beautiful bay on Colombia’s Caribbean coast. The snow-capped peaks of the Sierra Madre de Santa Marta range can be glimpsed from the beach on clear days. Founded by Rodrigo Bastidas in 1595, it is the oldest city in Colombia and second oldest in South America. The Spanish explorer found a large and thriving culture of indigenous Tayrona communities here, with an extensive regional trade in salt manufactured from the sea. The ensuing centuries have erased most traces of them, abetted by the tropical weather and the systematic destruction of the invaders. However some features are recalled in the Tayrona National Park, which also preserves natural elements such as golden beaches interspersed with huge volcanic boulders, lush jungle vegetation and plentiful wildlife. The Santa Marta Gold Museum displays the sort of artfully crafted works in precious metal that inflamed the greed of the conquistadors. Of more recent vintage is the elegant white Villa San Pedro de Alejandrino, donated by its wealthy owner in 1830 as a final home for the great liberator Simon Bolivar and now a time capsule of the era, calling to mind the fictional reminiscences of Nobel Laureate Gabriel Garcia Marquez, who was born nearby. The glittering towers and bustling streets of the Rodadero hug shoreline of the blue bay, attracting tourists from around South America and the world to Colombia’s colorful Caribbean playground.
Cruising Panama Canal
A thrilling day you will never forget. Surrounded by hulls of every sort and purpose from every corner of the globe, your ship is gracefully lifted by inrushing water in huge locks, and then sails through narrow, jungled channels and across a broad, shining lake from one ocean to another. At the other end, the waters again ease your ship downward to rejoin a different sea, and send you on your way with memories to last a lifetime.
Puntarenas (Puerto Caldera), Costa Rica
The principal town of Costa Rica’s Gulf of Nicoya, Puntarenas gives access to several of the nation’s ecological reserves, including the Monteverde Reserve, as well as highlights of the highlands such as the famous woodcarving center of Sarchi and the distinctive highland town of Grecia with its metal Gothic church. At the nearby Carara National Park, visitors can see the “Pura Vida†waterfall, some 650 feet high and keep an eye out for brilliant Scarlet Macaws.
Puerto Quetzal, Guatemala
Once the site of an impressive ancient Mayan civilization, Guatemala was conquered by Spanish conquistadors in 1524. Puerto Quetzal is Guatemala’s largest Pacific Ocean port, offering access to the natural and historic wonders of Guatemala. Beyond the black-sand beaches that surround Puerto Quetzal, a narrow ribbon of lowland runs the length of the Pacific shore, where local farmers raise cotton, sugar, bananas and maize. Bordering the fertile lowlands, the Guatemalan highlands suddenly emerge, rising to heights of 2500 to 3000 feet. Jutting boldly from the southern highlands is a string of volcanoes, adding even more drama to this diverse land of ancient Maya ruins, Spanish Colonial heritage and breathtaking scenery.
Puerto Chiapas, Mexico
Puerto Chiapas is located in the southern Soconusco region of the Mexican state of Chiapas, close by the Guatemalan border. The region produces both coffee and cacao for chocolate, and so provides opportunities to see how these commodities are grown, processed and used worldwide. Bananas and tropical blooms are two other regional agricultural mainstays. If you have never tasted a truly tree-ripened banana, the experience can be revelatory. There are some pre-Columbian ruins at Izapa, although nothing on the scale of other, more famous Mayan ruins in Mexico and Guatemala. Favorite activities that have been developed for visitors include people-to-people opportunities in some of the nearby rural (and very friendly) communities.
Cabo San Lucas, Mexico
Cabo San Lucas is ideally located where the Mexican desert collides with the confluence of the Pacific Ocean and the Sea of Cortez, producing postcard perfect views. Once a hideout for pirates and a tranquil fishing village, Cabo is located at the southernmost tip of the magnificent Baja peninsula, and is blessed with what many describe as the perfect climate. Long a favorite for anglers out to land the “big one,” Cabo San Lucas has great beaches, unlimited shopping options, restaurants and cantinas, and a variety of hotels and resorts.
