From the flashy Bollywood and the bustling Chor bazaar, to swirling saris along Fashion Street, its chaotic energy thrills at every turn and late into the night. After another day at sea, you’ll enjoy an overnight in Cochin, India. Rise early to see fishermen casting massive Chinese 14th century fishing nets, then head to nearby stalls to sample the day’s catch.
With an overnight in Colombo, there’s no need to choose between the famous elephant orphanage and ancient Kandy, where Buddha’s tooth is said to be housed in a sacred temple. Three leisurely days at sea bring you to three incredible days in Myanmar’s capital, Yangon. Hear the enchanting prayers of monks at sunset and ride the Circular Train for panoramas of urban neighborhoods and rural villages. Dubai
Dubai can already be mistaken for a movie set featuring a futuristic metropolis, and there are big plans still in the works. In the middle of the desert where almost nothing existed 20 years ago, there are so many building projects that foreign construction crews vastly outnumber citizens. Everything is the biggest, tallest, and the first of its kind, including manmade islands shaped like palm trees and the world’s first underwater hotel. It’s a striking collection of styles, including modern interpretations of Islamic architecture. If the planet’s largest shopping mall doesn’t appeal, traditional souks do still exist, including a gold souk housing over 200 retail shops.
Mumbai
Amid all the hustle and bustle, Mumbai is buzzing with adventures to discover. To get a sense of the region’s history, visit the Dr Bhau Daji Lad Mumbai City Museum, where you’ll find over 3,500 objects telling Mumbai’s story. To escape the hustle and bustle, travel to Elephanta Island, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, to tour the maze of cave temples and impressive temple carvings.
Kochi
The mixture of cultures and influences in Cochin—from giant Chinese fishing nets at Fort Kochi and a 400-year-old synagogue to ancient mosques and Portuguese-style homes—is a reminder of the city’s history as the former center of the Indian spice trade. But don’t mistake this combination of old and new, east and west as being inharmonious; Cochin is actually a renowned center for Ayurvedic medicine.
Colombo
This teardrop-shaped island gem offers engaging encounters both in the capital city and the surrounding countryside. Wind your way through the streets of Colombo’s old quarter to find some world-famous tea and explore eclectic cafés and shops. Trek out into the jungle and meet the friendly residents of a elephant orphanage.
Yangon
Colonial architecture lines the streets of Yangon—Myanmar’s garden city of the east. Marvel at the stunning Shwedagon Pagoda and join the thousands of Buddhist pilgrims who flock to this sacred site and perform a sacred act of giving. After, take a tour on the Circular Train, which offers a glimpse at daily life in and around Yangon that you won’t find anywhere else.
Singapore
Sink your teeth into this foodie’s paradise and be sure to try the unofficial dish of the city, chili crab. If eating can be considered the national pastime in Singapore, shopping makes a decent case as the second most popular activity. Head to Orchard Road where miles upon miles of shopping malls await featuring everything from the trendiest fashions to the latest electronic gadgets.
