Greece is home to thousands of islands and endless miles of coastline. While it would take a lifetime to visit them all, this immersive voyage takes you to some well-known and well off the beaten path ports in just 12 nights. We start in the place of myths and legends, Athens. Then, take in Mykonos’ sun bleached houses with brilliant blue shutters, vibrant bougainvillea, and 16th century Venetian windmills.
Next we cruise to the city of the Argonauts, Volos—considered one of the country’s prettiest cities and the gateway to the impossibly perched monasteries of Meteora. Thessalokini, the cultural capital of Greece is next, then set your gaze on Kavala, a beautiful whitewashed city crowned by a 15th century Byzantine castle and framed by fantastic beaches.
Continue your experience with a walk in the footsteps of John the Apostle on the holy island of Patmos, then discover the many epic landmarks of Ephesus. In Rhodes you’ll be transported back to the days of the Byzantine Empire as you walk the cobblestoned Street of the Knights. On Crete, modern Agios Nikolaos seamlessly blends the charm of a small fishing village with the glamor of a chic resort town.
Then it’s on to the bustling tavernas and volcanic beaches of Santorini where you can finish your day with a glass of Vinsanto (a sweet, strong dessert wine). Nafplio is one of the country’s most romantic towns on the doorstep of Mycenae and Corinth. A late stay lets you linger a little longer before we conclude back in Athens.

Athens
Start your journey in Piraeus with an archaeological walk past landmarks like the Temple of Olympian Zeus, Ancient Agora, and of course, the Acropolis. Afterwards, head to the Central Market for a feast of fresh fruit and veggies, nuts, olives, and Grecian cheese. Finally, check out a local taverna where you can rub elbows with the locals well into the wee hours of the night.
Volos
Dating back to the Neolithic age and famed as the mythical “City of the Argonautsâ€, Volos is a modern city in the heart of Greece, and is a place of immense natural beauty and numerous archaeological sites.
Kavala
Clinging to the foothills of Mt. Symvolo, the city of Kavala (“the heart of Eastern Macedoniaâ€) rises like an amphitheater out of the sea, with historical monuments and buildings almost too plentiful to list.
Patmos
The tiny island of Patmos is where the last book of the New Testament was allegedly written. Visit the Cave of the Apocalypse where John the Apostle stayed in AD 95. Fast-forward 993 in the Monastery of Saint John the Theologian which still stands guard over Patmos town. Then, make the pilgrimage back to Skala for a picnic of local delicacies like fresh octopus and savory cheese pie.
Kusadasi
Kusadasi has many charms, but let’s talk Turkey: The star attraction is Ephesus. Once the second largest city in the Roman Empire, its marble-made Arcadian Street stretches from the 24,000-capacity Great Theatre (where St. Paul used to preach) to the harbor. Nearby sites include the Temple of Artemis, Basilica of St. John, and House of Virgin Mary, where Mary is supposed to have spent her last days.
Aghios Nikolaos
Known for having “three faces to the seaâ€, this port on Crete’s east coast seamlessly blends the charm of a small fishing village with the glamor of a chic resort town. The perfect base for exploring smaller islands around Crete, it’s easy to create your own personal paradise in Agios Nikolaos.
Navplion
Prepare to fall in love with Nafplio! Known as one of Greece’s most romantic towns, Nafplio is home to beautiful Venetian homes and neoclassical mansions, as well as inspiring views of Argolic Gulf. Explore the 18th-century Palamidi fortress with someone special, and spend your evening strolling through the idyllic narrow city streets, hand in hand and making memories to last a lifetime.
