Highlights of this cruise:

Safi
Safi is a city in western Morocco on the Atlantic Ocean. The capital of the Doukkala-Abda Region, it is the main fishing port for the country’s sardine industry, and also exports phosphates, textiles and ceramics.

The central medina is a traditional Moroccan market. It is closely affiliated with pottery, and throughout the market vases, plates and other items are all made from clay and are popular with tourists. Safi has a beach, although it is recommended to travel north along the coastal road (Sidi Bouzid) towards Oualidia, where stretches of beaches run all the way along the route (Lalla Fatna, Beddouza, Iyir).

Arrecife
Lanzarote is the smaller of the two main Canary Islands, located about 100 km off the African coast. It’s capital, Arrecife, is home to the Canary Island’s largest fishing fleet, due to its close proximity to mainland Africa. Shopping opportunities for souvenirs include local embroideries, baskets, and native Guanche pottery.

Arrecife has three beaches, Playa Blanca, El Reducto and Guacineta. Playa El Reducto, just south of Arrecife, is said to be the best beach. A short camel trek through Timanfaya National Park in the Fire Mountains is a popular tourist activity.

The primary destination along the northern coast from Arrecife is the volcanic grottoes at Jameos del Agua, formed when the lava flow reached the Atlantic Ocean.

Sao Vicente
São Vicente, also Son Visent or Son Sent in Cape Verdean Creole, is one of the Barlavento islands of Cape Verde. It is located between the islands of Santo Antão and Santa Luzia, with the Canal de São Vicente separating it from Santo Antão.

Santiago
Santiago is the largest of the Cape Verde Islands. It’s capital city is Praia. The economy is driven by tourism, agriculture and fishing.

Sal
Sal is an island in Cape Verde. It belongs to the northern group of islands, called Barlavento. The island has six towns, Santa Maria being the tourism center with the most beautiful beaches. The main focal points here are the pier and the town square, the new residential district is at the eastern end of town which also has a small beach and is the focus of a lot of surfing and windsurfing activity.

The most picturesque place on the island is PEDRA DO LUME, the name given to a crater of the now extinct volcano. Entry to the crater was made possible by means of a artificial tunnel built in 1804. The crater is at sea-level, and even though the sea is 1 km away the water manages to filter in. The salt pits of Santa Maria, although not in use anymore, are well worth a visit and lie about 1 km from the town. VILA DE ESPARGOS, which got its name from the vegetation growing there, is also interesting to visit.
