14 Night Cruise sailing from Valparaiso to Ushuaia aboard Hanseatic Inspiration.

Chile’s northern and southern water systems present the story of the world’s creation like a gigantic history book. This cruise starts with the most beautiful chapter on fjords and fauna.

Highlights of this cruise:

Valparaiso
Valparaiso is a major port and the second largest city in Chile. It is 120km west of the capital, Santiago de Chile. This blue collar city is full of colorful clapboard houses and Victorian mansions built on a circle of steep hills. This stunning panorama is backed by the distant snow-capped peaks of the Cordillera.

Valparaiso has many things to offer the tourist, including great shopping, fine dining, theatre, museums, orchestral and band performances, festivals and sports events. Almost everything is within walking distance, and Valparaiso is located less than two hours from downtown Chicago. Valparaiso is also well known for its raucous nightlife, as sailors’ bars and bordellos line the winding, hilly streets.

Puerto Eden
Puerto Edén is a Chilean hamlet and minor port located on Wellington Island, Chile. It is 2,075 km. from Santiago, 442 nautical miles from Punta Arenas and 245 nautical miles from Puerto Natales.

Puerto Eden is considered one of Chile’s most isolated inhabited places together with Easter Island and Villa Las Estrellas. The village is known for being the home of the last Kawéshkar people and its main economic activity is fishery, extraction of mussels and civil service.

Straits of Magellan
The Strait of Magellan is a navigable sea route immediately south of mainland Chile and north of Isla Grande de Tierra del Fuego. It is approximately 570 km long and is about 2 km wide at its narrowest point, and is the most important natural passage between the Pacific and the Atlantic oceans. It is considered a difficult route to navigate because of the inhospitable climate and the narrowness of the passage.

Beagle Channel
The Beagle Channel is a strait separating islands of the Tierra del Fuego Archipelago, in extreme southern South America. It separates Isla Grande de Tierra del Fuego from the islands Nueva, Picton, Navarino, Hoste, Londonderry, Stewart Islands and other smaller to the south. Its eastern portion is part of the border between Chile and Argentina, but the western part is completely within Chile. The west end is the Darwin Sound and the east end is Nueva Island.

The Beagle Channel is about 240 kilometres (150 mi) long and is about 5 kilometres (3 mi) wide at its narrowest point. To the west the Darwin Sound connects it to the Pacific Ocean. The biggest settlement on the channel is Ushuaia in Argentina followed by Puerto Williams in Chile, two of the southernmost settlements of the world.

Ushuaia
Situated on the Beagle Strait, Ushuaia is the largest city in Argentine Tierra del Fuego, and arguably the southernmost city in the world. In the past, the town has been a missionary base, penal colony and naval base for the Argentine navy. Ushuaia is now a major tourist town, complete with casinos and nice restaurants, and commonly used as a base for hiking, winter sports and cruises to Antarctica

Founded just over one hundred years ago, this rustic town is situated amidst incredible snowcapped mountains, dramatic waterfalls, massive glaciers, and a forest known for its red foliage. Tierra del Fuego, the “Land of Fire,” twelve miles to the west of Ushuaia, is known for its glacial landscape and its national park, which is a bird-watcher’s paradise.
