Highlights of this cruise:

Kiel
Kiel is a city in northern Germany and the capital of the Bundesland Schleswig-Holstein. Located on the Baltic Sea (Bay of Kiel) at the head of the Kieler Förde (Kiel fjord), the city has been one of the country’s main naval bases since the 1860s. Kiel is a center for German shipbuilders and the eastern terminus of the Kiel Canal. A renowned university, the Christian-Albrechts-Universität is located in Kiel.

Kiel is very famous for its sailing events, including the Kieler Woche, (Kiel Week), one of the biggest sailing events in the world. The city itself has been developed around the Kiel Firth, it has a lively student scene and urban charm. The people of Kiel enjoy the advantages of a green city with parks, ferries and their own beaches.

Dartmouth
Dartmouth is a town in Devon in the south-west of England. It is a major tourist destination set on the banks of the estuary of the River Dart. Devon has two separate coastlines: to the south, on the English Channel and to the north, on the Irish Sea and Bristol Channel. These are studded with resort towns, harbours and surfing beaches.

For over 900 years, sailors have set out all over the world from this ancient harbour, including the Pilgrim Fathers on their way to the New World. Today, bistros, restaurants, boutiques and specialist shops line the narrow streets with their long flights of winding steps and intriguing medieval buildings.

No visit to Dartmouth is complete without a boat trip on the River Dart, whose wooded banks have provided the tropical setting of many a movie scene. For those more energetic, there are also walks of varying distance, visits to National Trust gardens, golf and sea angling – or one can just laze on the beaches, most of which are only a short bus or steam train ride away.

Honfleur
Honfleur is a sea and river port of call, located between the tidal Estuary of the Seine and the “Plateau d’Auge”, France. It is a city rich in artistic and historic heritage with a picturesque port area characterized by slate-covered houses. Visitors to Honfleur gravitate towards the old centre, around the Vieux Bassin, and the Promenade. The church of St-Étienne nearby is now the Musée de la Marine.

The town’s artistic past can be discovered in the Musée Eugène Boudin. Admission also gives you access to the detached belfry of the church of Ste-Catherine. Just down the hill, is Les Maisons Satie, the red-timbered house of the composer Erik Satie, born there in 1866. Inside is Normandy’s most unusual and enjoyable museum.

Hamburg
Hamburg is a major port city and second largest city situated on the Elbe River in northern Germany. Two-thirds of Hamburg is occupied by parks, lakes or tree-lined canals, giving a refreshing rural feel to one of the country’s major industrial and media centres.

Sightseeing is concentrated in two main areas, the city center and the harbor. Hamburg’s historical center is mostly modern with only a few ancient houses and churches surviving the 1841 fires and WW2 bombings. The city center looks onto the Alster Lake, of which the outer section (Aussenalster) is particularly attractive.

The other principal sightseeing center is the harbor and the adjoining red-light district of St Pauli with its infamous main street, the Reeperbahn. St Pauli is the city’s leading nightlife area, with numerous theaters and respectable nightspots. The harbor is the second biggest in Europe and provides visitors with boat tours, museum ships, the Speicherstadt warehouse museums and the colorful comings and goings of any major port.
