16 Night cruise departing from Cape Town to Tema onboard Crystal Endeavor.

Explore the world’s oldest desert where dunes meet the sea, national parks rich with wildlife and remote islands with forested jungles and a UNESCO-listed Biosphere. Discover the art, culture and history of little-known ports on Africa’s west coast.

Highlights of this cruise:

CAPE TOWN, SOUTH AFRICA
THE MOTHER CITY
Marvel at the magnificent presence of South Africa’s “Mother City,” where the iconic Table Mountain invites discovery and the Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden enchants. Take in the extraordinary scenery of the Cape Peninsula, explore history at Robben Island, visit up-and-coming art galleries, and savor the celebrated vintages of Stellenbosch.

LUDERITZ, NAMIBIA
ART NOUVEAU CHARM
Luderitz is truly an interesting city with its fascinating mix of German architecture and African landscape, wildlife and culture. Luderitz lives at the edge of a rocky coast, filled with exotic animals and colorful shorelines.

WALVIS BAY, NAMIBIA
SAND DUNES & SWAKOPMUND
At the juxtaposition of ocean and desert, Walvis Bay was claimed for the British crown in 1878 by Commander Richard C. Dryer. Fast forward to March 1994 when Walvis Bay and its offshore islands were incorporated into the Republic of Namibia following extensive negotiations with the Republic of South Africa. Highlights include the Rhenish Mission Church, which was built in Hamburg in 1880 before being dismantled and shipped to these shores.

LUANDA, ANGOLA
TRADE HISTORY & WILDLIFE
Originally the heart of Portuguese Angola in the 17th century, Luanda has been an influential port city throughout its history. As such, it has long been a relatively developed and bustling hub of commerce and later, tourism, now beckoning travelers to explore a different side of Africa. The Fortaleza de São Miguel, built in 1576, offers views northward of the city’s waterfront, while Kissama National Park about an hour south of Luanda provides close-by wildlife viewing opportunities.

SÃO TOMÉ, SÃO TOMÉ AND PRINCIPE
AFRICA’S EDEN
This largest city of this two-island nation is one of the world’s smallest capital cities. A verdant, varied landscape is shrouded in canopies of green – resulting from the advancing jungle that surrounds the island’s iconic needle-shaped Pico Cão Grande, a volcanic pillar jutting 2,175 feet above sea level. It’s a place of 16th century fortresses, a reviving cocoa (and artisan chocolate) trade, vibrant reef diving in turquoise waters beyond the white sand beaches.

BOM BOM ISLAND, SÃO TOMÉ AND PRINCIPE
GEM OF THE BIOSPHERE RESERVE
This nearly completely forested islet is part of the UNESCO-listed Island of Príncipe Biosphere Reserve in the Gulf of Guinea off the west coast of Africa. Tropical forests and marine ecosystems throughout the reserve house remarkably diverse flora and fauna, making Bom Bom and its neighbors vital to the conservation of sea turtles, seabirds, cetaceans and coral reefs. The island’s fishing and coffee, cocoa and copra agriculture sustain the economy, along with ecological tourism.

COTONOU, BENIN
COASTAL HEARTBEAT
Situated between Lake Nokoué and the Atlantic, this colorful city pulses with energy and warmth. Cotonou is the most westernized city in Benin, replete with the Grand Marché du Dantokpa brimming with artisans’ wares and a lively nightlife and restaurant scene. In fact, some of the most coveted experiences in the city’s center are epicurean in nature, with a number of refined French eateries and terraced lounges offering flavor and hospitality.

LOMÉ, TOGO
COUNTRYSIDE CAPITAL
Nestled in the Gulf of Guinea, Togo is a small country with a big heart, its capital of Lomé famous for the welcoming nature of its people. Lomé is a city of contrasts, bustling with commerce and industry as the main port here, but also lined with white beaches dotted with resorts and palm tree-lined avenues. The city center is a hub of cultural activity, from the region’s heritage at the Museum of West African Art to the colorful, entrepreneurial Grand Marché, or market.

TEMA, GHANA
FORTS & FISHERMEN
The largest seaport in Ghana, Tema boasts an inner and outer fishing harbor, the former known as the Canoe Basin and built to encourage the local fishing practice; the latter designed for the commercial fishing industry. But some of the most fascinating sites are located further along the coastline, where you’ll find UNESCO-listed forts and castles remaining from the Portuguese trade between the 15th and 18th centuries.
