Please note that your choosen cruise is conducted in German only. All printed matters are available in German. Nevertheless our crew is fluent in English.

Pioneering spirit on Europe’s west coast. Enjoy some insights into the rich heritage of major cities and small towns. A cruise that will awaken the joys of spring for cultural enthusiasts.

Highlights of this cruise:

Leixoes
Leixões seaport is one of Portugal’s major seaports. It serves the city of Porto, Portugal’s second largest city and capital in the north, located 4 km to the north of Douro River mouth.

Porto was selected the 2001 European Capital of Culture and is known mainly for its trade in Port wine. Built on the bank of the Douro River, Oporto is a city where the old contrasts with the new. Its winding, hilly, narrow streets are a complement to wide, modern avenues that spread out to the suburbs.

Attractions in Porto include the many famous bridges of D. Luis I and Dona Maria Pia, the Palacio da Bolsa (Stock Exchange), the Gothic Sao Francisco Church, the City Hall and the Avenida Dos Aliados where locals go to commemorate important political and sporting events.

Nantes
Nantes is a city in western France, located on the Loire River, 50 km from the Atlantic coast. The city is the sixth largest in France and is the historical capital of the region, with strong historical connections with the adjoining region of Brittany. The city grew around the Chateau des Ducs de Bretagne (Castle of the Dukes of Brittany), which is now one of Nantes major tourist attractions.

The city is a center of the high-tech and aeronautics industries, food-processing, and fisheries. Nantes is a center for horticulture with many beautiful parks and gardens. A fine arboretum, the Jardin des Plantes, contains collections of rare plants covering 18 acres. There are also many museums and lively arts and music festivals.

Hamburg
Hamburg is a major port city and second largest city situated on the Elbe River in northern Germany. Two-thirds of Hamburg is occupied by parks, lakes or tree-lined canals, giving a refreshing rural feel to one of the country’s major industrial and media centres.

Sightseeing is concentrated in two main areas, the city center and the harbor. Hamburg’s historical center is mostly modern with only a few ancient houses and churches surviving the 1841 fires and WW2 bombings. The city center looks onto the Alster Lake, of which the outer section (Aussenalster) is particularly attractive.

The other principal sightseeing center is the harbor and the adjoining red-light district of St Pauli with its infamous main street, the Reeperbahn. St Pauli is the city’s leading nightlife area, with numerous theaters and respectable nightspots. The harbor is the second biggest in Europe and provides visitors with boat tours, museum ships, the Speicherstadt warehouse museums and the colorful comings and goings of any major port.
